03 Handbrake adjustment fore & aft.
Can the handbrake lever mounting point within the centre console be easily moved forward at all?
ie the whole unit unbolted & moved forward about an inch so that the lever when released lays down such that the release button sits nearer the front of the recess in the centre console.
Mark.

Anything can be done but why,the idea of the gap is to allow you to get your thumb in to release the lever.
If you try to move it you will have to extend the cable from both wheels and the console itself would need re-modeling due to the gap caused by moving the lever forward.
Leave well alone is my advice.

Believe me I would not contemplate this lightly. But dealer has fitted this Momo cover from the Subaru brochure Pt No SACC2537.
This is fatter than the OEM leather sleeve. So when you release it the thickness of it stops it droping down into the channel in the console. It rests on the corner of the U shaped cut away & where it fouls the slot it is wearing at the edges of the gaiter.Replaced under warranty at 10K.
There is a good couple of inches clearance to get your thumb over the end so moving it forward just an inch would not interfere with safe operation of it.And that would allow the thiner part of the lever just behind the cover to drop into place as the fatter bit would be clear.
You cant slide the cover forward along the inner bit as the button would disappear from view at the other end.The only other alternative would be trim an inch off each corner of the slot on the console, easier said than done.
This is why I wondered how the base of the lever, at its pivot point, mounts to the floor. If it bolts on and could be moved along with all the cable end mountings then, if there was enough slack along the outer cables length, it might work.
