Question Help from any of you experts please.

I have a MY00 with full de-cat, ecutek custom re-map, samco intercooler hoses and a uprated fuel pump. My peak boost has been set at about 1.3bar, but in 4th and 5th when i put my foot to the floor it can hit 1.6-1.7bar briefly but then holds around 1.0bar is this correct? or shouldn't it get anywhere near 1.6bar albeit very briefly.

Any help would be appreciated.

James.

It definitely shouldn't get anywhere near 1.6bar...! That's 23psi...! Is the car not hitting fuel cut then? Or is the overboost more of a spike?

IT could be one of two things. Wategate solenoid contaminated with oil, or the restrictor in the compressor-to-actuator pipe is clogged/needs drilling out a tad. It's certainly easier to try the first solution though. Click here for a similar recent thread and follow the same advice.

Hi mate,

Thanks for that i will give it a go cleaning it out, as i'm a bit worried now, how can you tell what a boost spike is? It only hits that high boost in 4th or 5th not the lower gears. Looks like i will have to get it back to where it was mapped only 6 weeks ago.

Hi James - weren't you posting something similar a few days ago? As mentioned then, it's very hard to get good boost control on the stock 2 port solenoid. Fixing this overboost will lead to worse boost control in the lower gears. 3 port or Dawes is the only sensible fix...IMVHO

I mentioned a spike, as I was curious why you didn't hit fuel cut. When you say briefly, how long did it hold 1.6-1.7bar for? Do you know if you've got a fuel cut defender fitted?

You wouldn't expect it to hit that level of boost in lower gears. If it did, you'd probably find 4th and 5th were hitting 2bar...!

Personally, I'd certainly have a go at cleaning the wategate solenoid, before doing anything else more drastic. Do you know if it's a 2 port or a 3 port...?
