Speed related Whirring Noise - maybe from behind Speedo Binnacle

I have an MY00 that has a noise (not sure how long it's been there) that seems to be speed related and maybe coming from behind the speedo binnacle.
I thought it may of been gearbox, but it does not sound harsh enough. Also it does not matter which gear you are in or if the clutch is depressed or not.
As the car speeds up and slows you can hear a slight whirring noise. It becomes more evident at about 60mph, but once your ears are tuned into it you can hear it all the time. As mentioned above it may even be coming from the dash (does and MY00 have a speedo cable or is it electronic)
I though it may also of been a wheel bearing, but it's only done 23,00miles.

Sounds similar to a problem I had with my classic when I changed to blue LEDS - if I didnt connect the speedo cable 100% it made this whirring noise more speed meant more noise. It was a bugger to do though...
I am not sure about the new age but mine defo "peaked" noise wise at about 60 mph....so might be the cause, worth getting checked if its annoying..

I had similar also, on a classic.
Strangely tho' even tho' I could have swore it was coming from somewhere behind the dash (I thought I had narrowed it down to the speedo convertor KPH > MPH) it turned out to be the bosch wiper blades I had just fitted and the noise was the air whistling through them...
How stupid did I feel
