car stalling when you drop the clutch

Hi all,
This one may challenge people it has challenged the Subaru Dealers.
If you drop the clutch and lift off the throttle, with the engine reving above 2500rpm then the engine will stall completely with the revs dropping to zero.
But if you do the same drop the clutch and lift of the throttle with the engine speed below 2500rpm then the engine rpm drops to idle. Where it will sit happy and bubbling away.
Go figure the dealers have changed and tested god knows what and still cannot trace the fault is it a sensor or???
So i have decided to post this thread to see if anyone out there has come across this problem before and knows what it is and a solution.
cheers,
eagerly awaiting any response......

It will be the MAF.
Subaru dealers are ****ing stupid sometimes. This problem ahs been around for 6 years now, and they still cant find it
If they could, it may have saved quite a few engines.
Anyway, back to the topic. Dont let them fob you off, im assuming your car is a MY99/00. Then they should be able to supply just the MAF element, not the housing. Its about £90.
Try unplugging it and see how the car behaves then
But only at idle.
They should be able to see the MAF signal climb and climb, then just drop to zero on the select monitor - from memory.

Ask for it to be changed, and ECU reset and see what happens. If it fixed it, tell them everyone from Snet thinks they're poorly trained ![Smile](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/smile.gif)
If its not that, then the Idle solenoid needs cleaning, you have a nasty air leak, or the 02 sensor needs changing.
