Please HELP, scooby wont start
about a week ago i was driving round and then the MAF sensor blew (according to the AA man). he unplugged the sensor and it seemed to run ok. I drove home very slowly, i then got a new MAF and connected it up. Started the car and it turned over, ran for a few moments then died. By this time the battery was flat so i charged it up and now it will turn over but it wont start at all. Limited info i know, but i am not very mechanicly minded so any help is much appriciated. The car is MY97 STI TYPE R

If the battery is flat then first off, charge it up or change it if it doesn't take a good charging. Try it again in the morning.
It may be flooded if it's been cold started and then stopped without a run in between.
What were the original symptoms that caused you to call the AA?
Jeremy.

Scooby won,t Start.? U got any spark Bud ?
Just seen this post. Have you checked to see if you have any spark mate. Either at coil packs or Amplifier. Sugest you do as others have said and charge Battery and do Ecu reset first. If still no joy, start doing the eimination process. First thing to do is see if youv,e any spark at coil pack. if the answers NO. Go to amplifer on o/s wing (drivers side). Should be by Boost valve somewhere. It,s rectangula in size about 1/2 in thick by 2,1/2 in x 2 . See if theres anything coming out of that power wise. Also you checked for Fuel at engine. may have just blown fuse for fuel pump. What ever it is ,is simple i would imagine. Keep us informed please. I suspect you have no spark thou off the top of my head.
hope you sort it. Ifs its the Amp i have one off a MY 97 uk. Dont know if its any good for yours . buts its here if need be

i had a mechanic out today and he had a good look. he says that the coil pack has gone. its sparking and fueling but the sparks are shorting out and not getting down the HT leads. i will try and get a coil pack from a breakers. are they all the same, sort of subaru coil packs. any idea on prices would help. thanks

I just had breakdown guys out to mine, apparently the engine was flooded because I had cold started it then after a few secs turned it off as I received a phone call.
I came to it this morning 2 days later and it wouldnt start, engine turning not firing.
Mine is a 95 WRX.
Breakdown guy know what it was from my description within about 1 min of arrival, he never even opened a toolbox !!
Lesson learned, wont be doing that again, but if I do I know what it is now.
