IMO forget the unichip and have your ECU remapped by an EcuTek dealer. Far safer and on a MY01 can be switched on and off to appear invisable to a dealer or when the wife drives
There is a TEK3 group buy going on atm in the General section, get on to that if I were you at around the same price !!!!!
Check out the Power Engineering website which will explain the difference and dangers of a piggy back unit and EcuTek.
Cheers

As far as I have understood it from my tuner(I am not an expert myself)
The only way to turn Ecutek off is to reprogram the ECU with the factory-maps again.
The changes that is done to the maps is permanent and can not be hidden to the dealer, it is however difficult for the dealer to know if the ECU has been flashed. He would have to know the exact figures for the factory-maps which is different on a MY00 and a MY03 for instance....

AFAIK Bugeye MY01-02 can have two maps.........EcuTeK allegedly has the ability to switch between the two. Full throttle and toggling the rear screen heater switching the two over
I have an EcuTek remap on my MY02 and accept that it invalidates the warranty, in any case I'm sure that Subaru (IM) can tell that the ECU's been tampered with.........
Back to the question re unichip...I think most replies will suggest an EcuTeK re-map as it keeps the safety features of the original ECU whilst adding a few more BHP !!
Midlife.....

As Midlife stated, On a MY01 upwards the heater switch combined with the toggle of the noise pedal will change the map between a low and high boost map.
Cheers
