Default Smelly Brakes

Just noticed my brakes smell pretty bad after a run

Is it just the cr@p pads (basic v cheap OE ones, as I needed to get something quick)

Im not talking about a heavy run, more just a nip into town (3 miles) run & back, along a dual carriageway, braking from about 50-60mph with more than enough time

Is it the pads or could it be the discs, (Tarox 40 groove)

Steve

Sugest you take it down quite road then mt8 and stamp on them a few times hard (makin sure no other vehicles are around thou). Trial and error unfortunatly. But you need to see what they will do, just incase the worst happens in front of you. Could be glazed from Motorway work and u have burnt it off a bit

2-300 miles on mostly motorway, could well be that the pads aren't properly bedded in yet. Therefore, IMHO you're better off following proper bedding in techniques (gently build up to harder stops over 10s of miles) rather than stamping on them hard! New brakes will sometimes smell a bit the first few times you use them, and the first few times you use them harder. If they still smell once they're properly bedded in, and continue to do so for days afer you've performed a few harder stops, then something might be wrong. I wouldn't worry too much at the moment as long as they are stopping you properly!

My front discs/pads smelt a bit with a mildly enthusiastic run after about 4-500 miles, as that was the first time I'd done more than very gentle stops (fair bit of early mileage was motorway, other bits with parents in the car!). That's with Tarox pads and discs. Now after 8-900 they seem fine.
