Question Hesitation, holding back, after clutch change

Changed clutch last week and only just got around to giving it some. When driving normal car is excellant. Problem occurs if you boot it ie floor it to say overtake. Feels like its holding back, hesitating, not smooth when you floor it. All pipes are ok. Boost valve i cleaned with carb cleaner.I didn,t remove down pipe to do clutch. Only thing i removed off top off engine was intercooler. But to replace intercooler was a bitch, so i removed the 4 bolts from the flanges underneath it and replaced pipework for it first and bolted intercooler back on to pipework after ,at flanges underneath which are (4 x 10mm bolts ). QUESTION IS

1, Should the flanges on the underside of intercooler have been sealed ie gasket (non on when i pulled it apart thou) or would it be okay like it is ? or do it need to be complete 100% air tight seal.

2, Could a leak on centre section of exhaust cause the above syptoms. (Centre section removed to enable gearbox removal)

3, Or should i do an ECU reset ( disconect battery for an hr).

It idles perfect, doesn,t cut out, runs fine at normal operating speed. only happens when like i said u floor it to overtake. Cars a MY 98. I know its something simple. something ive missed. But anyone got any ideas on here please.

Thanks in advance

Steve.

Does it in Any gear easyrider. Just been told to recheck jubilee clips on intercooler pipework as they need to be VERY tight. Long as you don,t floor it its perfect, had it up to 120 (private test track) Only when u floor it does it do it. I must be loosing boost pressure somewhere .

It does seem to be the route to go down---it might be worth checking the connections on the coil pack are o.k just incase they were accidentally disturbed.

Problem solved. A cut in the rubber pipe that goes from intercooler to throttle body (3in in diamater). New pipe = Full boost. Must have been leaking for a while as its perfect now . Thanks to those who advised either on here or via E mail.

No extra noise mate. Just felt like it wasn,t pulling right. missing slighlty, hesitating and holding back. In town is ran perfect on motorway perfect. just when u pushed peddle to the floor quickly for overtaking it did it. Even idled fine.

Interesting... My MY99 is doing something similar to this.

Not all the time but quite often - if I floor it in any gear I get a slight hesitation before the power kicks in. This is really noticable in 1st when trying to pull away from lights etc.

It's a standard car except ITG air filter and ScoobySport backbox. No idle problems (idles at a solid 800rpm), boost gauge shows 0.85-0.9 bar at full throttle, power output on recent rolling road was 236BHP at 6k rpm.

I'm a complete car newbie so looking at Shropshire Guy's solution maybe I should just get a pipework upgrade from Subaru? I'm still under warranty so don't wanna do anything to jeopardise that.

Comments?
