Just started to get this only after the engine has warmed up
Get full power to 4500 rpm and then mis-fire
No activity on the knocklink
The speedo has always been slow to read (70 mph at a true 80, nothing until doing about 20mph)
Anything I should look at

When the ecu detect a problem with the speed sensor it logs that error code and restricts rpm to 4500rpm.. usually the speedo cable has snapped but if you are still getting a working speedo then the sensor may be faulty.

JGM,
Thanks for that, do you know if I can just replace the sensor or is it the complete head unit which will need changing?

The speed sensor is bolted into the gearbox.. iirc it is on the downpipe side somewhere.. trying to remember back to when I dropped the box out.. not sure..
All I do know is that your ECU is detecting a problem with the speed signal.. not neccassarily a problem with the speedo but the speed sensor in the gearbox or the cable.
I don't know any more about the make up of the speed cable and stuff than that as <touch wood> mine has been okay..
check here for subaru manual which might be the best next move.

JGM,
I think you'll find that the gearbox mounted sensor only applies to UK models.
I know that the cable on mine is fine as the odometer reads the correct distance (and always has)
So Len at Subaru4you and I both think it is in the header unit (and they seem to be very hard to get hold of second-hand ;-( )

Finally got one from Grade A, very nice too, reads the correct speed.
BUT ECU code 33 after 10 mins of driving, full ECU reset (3 hours) and same again with 10 mins.
Any ideas please?
