Question Knock Reading on SECS Data Monitor

Driving around today, watching the Knock Reading on the data monitor, I noticed that, under light/medium throttle, it reads 0.5 then 0.0 then 0.5 ...and so on.

I'm sure it hasn't behaved like this in the past...

I replaced the MAFsensor approx. 2 months ago, so i hope it's not that on the blink again!
The lambda gauge reading seems to be fine (just on the verge of being rich)

Car is a UK turbo MY00, fairly standard with just a K&N panel filter and decat H&S exhaust.
Running on Optimax - Could it just be a dodgy bit of fuel???

Does anyone else experience this?

What figure should the Knock correction value on the data monitor read up to?

Any comments/advice would be much appreciated

Cheers

My MY99 did this when i was forced to run it on a tank of supermarket SUL, knock link lit up and then i noticed the ecu had started to retard the ignition timing by half a degree. Once i reset the ecu with the SECS and put a tank of optimax back in, it has been fine.
My conclusion crapppy Sainsburys SUL, which comes from BP by the way>

Is this SECS knock reading really working on MY00 ?
My readings has always shown 0.0 and I was thinking it's not working on MY00. My mate's MY99 was on rolling road and SECS showed 0.0 and tuner sayd it was knocking badly on full blast.

AFAIK it doesn't read "knock", just the amount of advance the ECU is putting out. I get up to 1.2 degrees when driving in a "very sprited manner" and between 0 and .7 most other times. (I think the decimal point is in the right place, may be 12 and 7)

Best to keep an eye on the Knocklink display instead

I'd be interested to know what you guys see with your SECS unit.

I've had mine fitted now for a few weeks and it shows the following info (but I wouldn't know whether this is good or not without others sharing their info)

LA-AFR on idle shows .95 degress up to 1.00
When foot is too the floor it show .76 degrees

IG: on idle shows 10-12 degrees
When foot is too the floor it shows 19 degrees

KC: 0.0 when driving normally
foot to the floor hard in 4th shows 3.5 degrees. Sometime a little higher, maybe as much as 7 degrees.

I'm sure I read elsewhere that the higher the number the better for the KC.

Haven't got my Knocklink fitted yet, it arrived last week.

MY KC Shows roughly the same, and I was running SUL with octane booter on a Euro Spec car. So I hope it isn't knock or I've got issues!

Nevetas,

Mines running straight Optimax, but I have just ordered some Millers so I'll compare results once I've added this in.

I'd like to see some results from others just to see if we are ok !

I *think* it's just the amount it's putting in. maybe we should only be worried if we start seeing - readings????

the secs does not detect knock on your car only a knock link will do that. was speaking to them about this function and they said "they will not a this function as if the unit goes wrong people will be looking to blame them for the engine failure" which is a fair point

Cheers for clearing that up, so if it doesn't detect knock, what exactly are these readings??

I believe the KC on SECS is showing the timing correction to prevent detonation. On a Scoob the ecu runs the engine on the edge of detonation and the ecu is continuously monitoring the engine parameters to prevent it. If you see negative KC you are getting det. Unfortunately the built in knock sensor is ignored above ~5500 rpm due to general engine noise. This is where a Knocklink is useful and also as a back up against failure of the built in knock sensor.

However, on a MY99 Scoobs SECS does not read KC or LA.
