Sorry but I could not find "search", and I imagine this is a FAQ.

What oil are people using ?

I had a 200sx and used Mobil 1 ( kwikfit oil and filter £35) I know there are the concerns over it being "thin" and not ideal for turbos but it was changed every 3000 miles so hopefully never really got a chance to breakdown.

I liked the cost and convenience of £35 and no mess.

Any suggestions ?

Motul 10W40 went in at the last service for me.

Del, the 0w/40 version of Mobil 1 is thinner than ideal for the Impreza, and indeed any turbocharged engine, unless you live somewhere very cold and only tend to drive short distances. Same comment can be made of any 0w/40 full synth.

However, the 15w/50 "Motorsport" version of Mobil 1 works great in these cars, and should also be available from your local Halfrauds. Alternatives that are equally good include Castrol RS 10w/60 and Motul 300v 15w/50.

The important thing again with your Subaru is to keep changing the oil on a regular basis - 3000 miles is perfect. The flat four engine design also advocates a specific oil change technique, which you'll find some more info on here.
