Check Engine light at start...
Hi guys:
My car is having a weird problem. When the key is moved to the "contact" position is supossed the oil, battery, hand brake and check engine lights must be on and is possible hear the buzz of the fuel pump, żok?. Well in my car when the key is in that position, all that lights but the "Check Engine" turn on, there is not fuel pressure and the car don't start...
I don't know What does mean the "Check Engine" light at the start must mean. But it seems the ECU have no power. The dealer told me he tried to connect the Select Monitor but it wasn't possible...
Any idea? Anyone with a similar problem?
Thanks in advance

What MY is your Impreza? If it's a new age (bug eye onwards), there's not a lot we can do to help. If it's a classic though, you should be able to check the CEL error yourself, by connecting the black plugs beneath your steering column, turning on the ignition, and monitoring the sequence of CEL flashes. More information on that can be found here...

Have seen a similar problem when engine cranking, seemed the battery voltag went a bit too low and the ecu logged an "immobiliser error" coding as it could not read the key fully.
Tried charging the battery initially, to see if it did the trick, then replaced it and not had the fault since.

At the other hand, is different when there is a error because the the key is in the "ON" position, the check engine blinks. In my case, there isn't ANY check engine light...
Is possible it could be a IMM problem? once I tried by using a copy of the key, but without the IMM system. I turn on the engine but nothing happens, but the check engine light starts a fast blinking...
Ahh before I forget. The problem begun some month ago, but only in the mornings when the car was cold. In order to solve this, I leaved the key in the "ON" position for a while and suddenly the Check Engine goes on with a "click" sound of a relay.... maybe is a gremlin there...

There was someone on here a few months ago, who had purchased a JDM off someone, and started having problems with it. Posted on here, someone suggested inducing ECU read mode to see if there were any codes, and he soon realised the CEL lamp couldn't illuminate. Upon investigation, the arsehole who sold it him had removed the bulb...
