At what point is a re-map needed on MY97?
I have a standard Uk'97 wagon and am starting to look into getting some more power out of it. At the moment I have an H&S Scoobysport back box on the car and I have got hold of an sti 4 intercooler and y-pipe which will get a good clean and its fins all straightened up before it goes on. I also have an Sti panel filter on the way.
Longish term I see the upgrade path going something like:
1. Fit filter
2. Fit intercooler - planning to tilt it up as much as possible and make a splitter.
3. Full de-cat
4. Samco hoses
5. Boost gauge
6. Some form of boost control.
I believe I will top out the injectors and turbo just this side of 300bhp, which should do just now.
At which point in the process would it be sensible to fit a knocklink and AFR? straight away? before the de-cat? along with the boost gauge ? Obviously I'll need to be able to monitor the situation before starting to up the boost but am I likely to get into trouble running a de-cat ?
How far can I go with the mods before I will need to look into replacing the ecu or remapping ?
Any advice or experience you could share would be very welcome.

Hi mate ive got a 97 as well, I had changed the exhaxst to full de-catt and fitted an induction kit. made the car feel much more responsive, added a boost guage and mbc set to 1.1 bar. unfortunatly i never got a chance to get it RR before going mad on it.
however it felt much nicer to drive as well as a bit quicker imho.
As regards to the ecu Rich Wild still uses the standard one on his my97 and reecently made 380 odd BHP.

Cheers for the mention Pete.
If you look on www.jap-innovations.co.uk in the features section and then in the cars section you can read my full spec (think it's up to date)
There's lots you can do before you need to look at the ECU.

Edited to add it's under "Nick's MY97"
