Question Quick Aircon Question

Hi

Think I have a problem with my aircon. Its not blowing cold, so imediately assumed it needed a recharge. However I notice that when I press the aircon button, I do not notice a change in the engine. ie Revs drop slightly sound of the compressor. Anyway looked under the bonnet (2 ltr Legacy) and I cannot see the compressor going round.

Question does the aircon system know when it needs regassing and therfor disengages the compressor?

If not i suspect I have a bigger problem.

Any advice appreciated.

Thanks

Scoobs

Not to sure about that, but my 98 wagon only had 0.05g in it and was still engaging. Hope that helps

My car needed a re-gas when I bought it , when I pressed the air con button there was no change in engine revs either, I would imagine you just need a re-gas costs about £70.

Right the answer to your question,
Basically you have a binary or trinary low pressure cut pressure switch in your system. The idea of this is when you run low on gas it automaticaly cuts the compressor out for saftey reasons,as the compressor relies on the gas to carry the oil back to it,hence low on gas cuts out the compressor as the oil does not stay in it.Hope this has been some help to you Scoobs.
