Unhappy Puff of blue smoke ...

Just noticed this week...

If the car has been stood for an hour or more, sometimes it gives a puff of blue smoke when accellerating off ... and changing up etc. Even did it once when blipping throttle hard a few times on the drive.

Any ideas what this is down to? Worn rings, valve stem seals, or failing turbo? Or worse... ?

It is a MY94 WRX wagon with 77000 miles on the clock, TD04 turbo but with headers, scoobysport decat, and scoobyecu. Always serviced every 3000 miles with Mobil 1 motorsport of 10-60 Castrol RS.

Thanks

Forgot to say, runs to 16 PSI held in 4th and 5th, has STi TMIC and bonnet scoop undertray, Forge recirc dump valve, MRT inlet plenum, etc. AFR shows rich under any load, no nasty knock lights in kock link.

Mine started like that. Had a compression test done and found it was No.2 piston US. Ring had gone.

Get it sorted sooner, rather than later.

Thanks Red ... and I am running at Scoobyshootout on Monday too!

Wonder, I still have recirc dump valve, but since swapping out the airbox for a cone the dump noise is much louder, and induction air is more noticeable, could I be getting air loss out of the filter on dump ( or air direction reverse past the maf and out of filter! ) and then getting a similar over richening of fuelling as a atmos dump valve would cause?

Then puff of smoke may be just as dump valve goes?

I'll get it looked at soon!

Hi Vulnax,

I run a recirc dump and 57i induction cone.

What i have noticed, since i have had the motor done is that the induction noise is less.

One thing you can check is the plugs. My No.2 plug was well oiled.

Cheers Red.
