![Question](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/icons/icon5.gif)
Does anybody know how much larger the STI intercoolers are compared to a WRX in the 03 model? If i could source cheaply an STI one (say from a breakers), would it be a worthwhile addition given further modifications and remaps later on?
Or would it be worthwhile saving a bucketload and getting an APS or other one ?
All views welcome![Smile](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/smile.gif)
P.S.

neilo..
I've got a MY02 WRX and changed to the Sti TMIC when I went for the TD05 fe Turbo etc.....![Big Grin](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
Bob Rawle mentioned the Sti TMIC has a better flow/pressure drop which meant that 300 BHP was reasonable compared to the WRX intercooler![Big Grin](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
Stop now and take a deep breath !! I thought that the Sti TMIC would do me forever and bought a new one .....I forget the price but £550 rings a bell !!
I now run 300 plus BHP but now saving for a FMIC !!

Hi Neilo,
similar story to Midlife, I sourced an STI8 TMIC for my MY02 WRX, at got it fitted at the same time as the TEK3 remap. Likewise I was told it would provide better 'flow' and cooling. You'll probably need to think about a bigger bonnet scoop as well though to maximise benefit (STI7 or STI8-style).
The TMIC cost me £150 if I remember correctly because I got it off the 'For Sale' section here - they do crop up now and again as the STI boys go for FMICs or even larger aftermarket TMICs eg. from APS.
best of luck

PS Midlife, if you see this post - when you fitted your STI TMIC, did you bother changing the black plastic 'under-scoop' thingy under the bonnet as well? The standard WRX one seems a little restrictive to me as it drops onto the new intercooler well inside the outer edges, as it was designed for the smaller WRX I/C
what do you reckon?

The WRX baffle plate is much smaller than the STi IC sq area so its pointless not to fit the STi plate.
I am not keen on having the large scoop on though - I think it "looks" OTT - is there any evidence to say that the std WRX scoop will flow the max air rate that can be squeezed through the larger IC?

STI I/C = 22% Bigger than the WRX one overall and YES you need the STI underscoop seal and splitter in order to have all the benefits from it.
I ordered a STI8 one and waiting the delivery but unfortunately I have to change also my nice WRX03 bonnet scoop with the huge STI item, the most yngly scoop IMHO for Imprezas!

I got the STi bigger scoop but kept the original WRX underbonnet arrangement. Some air does miss the new intercooler but as I'm runing 325 BHP (Well Lane) it can't be that bad. Apparantly it also works better with the splitter which directs air at the front of the IC.
Well done on getting one from Scoobynet, saved yuorself £400 quid.....I waited and waited and eventualy bought new. Then forgot abut the metal Sti pipe underneath which was another £80 quid![Frown](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/frown.gif)
