Default whats the cheapest way to do this ?

At the moment I have a standard ECU in my 93 import wrx

What is the cheapest way to get this set up so that I can hook it up to a laptop ?

Thanks in advance

Might help if you told us what you plan on doing with it once you've got it "hooked up".

Do you want to reprogram/remap, or simply read and display/log sensor and performance parameters in real time?

I too would be very interested in this.
I have a spare laptop lying around the house and would love to custom fit it into the car to use as a real time display etc.

Also something similar to this would be very interesting for those that have got a tv screen in their car as what better way of having a readout display parameters on a big screen.

Your ideas are welcomed again greesemonkey.

ok here is the crack

fancy a tv in the car, but dont know how good it would be as in getting a tv channel to stay tuned in.

dvd players are ok, but then your not really in the car driving for a couple of hours to watch a whole film.

hence I cant really justify putting a tv in the car

unless.......

I have seen a touchscreen flush fit monitor and I had the idea of running some sort of pc system in the car. I could run windows on this via the monitor and I thought it would be cool to have this set up with the ecu so you can see whats going on !

To answer your question GM..

I have a standard import wrx it has not been remapped for uk fuel I just use optimax and millers.

I am looking for the cheapest way to get the ecu readable with my car. If I have to get a proper remap then I might but there might be a cheaper way than spending £700+ on a remap ??

Hope you can help ?!?

VAL113R,

If your head unti system has a tuner then it should be quite good for getting a tv signal as the aerials will be mounted on the roof of your car.

However quality or reception will degrade somewhat in built up areas.

Anyway, what happens if you take a car into say TSL motorsports or wherever?

Do they link the ECU port up to a computer to midify data and/or just get a readout on laptop?

I would be very interested in knowing if its possible for someone to connect up a laptop in the same way and get some kind of readout showing up on the screen.

Its probably possible but how complex for an average person to get done i dont know.

Ok ive found out the answer.

ECU-TEK do software and a connection dongle that wil hook up to a laptop and you install the software and you have plenty of on sceen parameters to look at! NICE!

They are releasing a USB verision in 6-8 weeks that will connect straight up to the USB port and will cost less and im saving my pennies now.

I have written some Widows software for reading the older ECUs in the style of deltadash.

I am working on software for aiding remapping too, but I haven't had enough time to get this working yet.

I can't get on Scoobynet in work time, so I may not reply quickly
