funny thing happened to me on the way in this morning...
actually, its neither funny or did it happen this morning.
picture the scene...
coming back from the Mencap rally in somerset on sunday morning.
the saturday had been spent hooning round somerset for 160miles as well as a drag strip (5k launch) challange at the Haynes motor museum (clutch got whiffy thats for sure!)
anyway, back to the main event...
its about legal speeds, I change down a gear to boot it up the hill and as I disengage 5th I cannot engage any gears at all and the clutch pedal has almost no resistance to it.
on with the hazards (luckily a scoob in front as well as behind me to slow traffic) and dart into a bus layby.
engine off, up with the bonnet and nothing seems amiss.
five minutes later restart the car and it goes into gear well enough, bit of a funny feel to the clutch pedal (bit *wobbly* can feel some sort of vibrating I think).
got home and let everything cool down, checked all fluids and seemed ok.
started her up for work on the tuesday and have been making it ok ever since (albeit much more mechanically sympathetic than usual) - touch wood-
a good friend (who happens to be a well respected mechanic) has made a suggestion as to what it might be and it seems highly likely that could be the case. But I wont tell you all what he suggested because I would like some unclouded opinions without any input or bias from me.
the car is about 250bhp 99 classic on a borg and beck clutch kit (about 3k miles ago)
what do you guys reckon:
a) could be the cause ?
b) is the next most sensible course of action ?
thanks v. muchly
Andy

Sounds like you might have boiled the clutch fluid?
Seeing as its the same stuff as brake fluid, if it gets too hot it stops working properly.
Also seeing as the car has had chance to cool down it started working properlyish??
A change of fluid should sort it
Mike
Scuse my lack of techy words n stuff, but i's a bit a simple see

thanks for that, funnily enough exactly the same answer as my technician chum.
as for simple speak, must be spot on because I understood what you meant
Andy (off to do a fluid change).
ps. is that the dodgily located dipstick just below the offside of the i/c that you need a funnel to do on a 99uk?

Hi Andy
no its not !!!!! your clutch system is a sealed system as per your brakes
clutch fluid is hygroscopic?? ie it absorbs water so must be kept away from the stuff
your clutch master cylinder will be similar to your brake resovior , or may be one and the same,
there should be a bleed nipple on the clutch slave cylinder tofacilitate bleeding
thats the puppy your after
