But mapped to Jap Fuel.

another question, how do I get the 'most' out of it ?? I have the pleasure of owning a '96 STI type RA

Currently running full decat, hks induction kit, cosworth pistons, uprated con-rods etc. Only run Optimax but w/o octane booster.

PROVA map runs about ~16.42psig boost target but does run a fair amount of ignition advance

Cheers

meaning ???
It was mapped for Japanese Fuel (100RON) to start with but with the PROVA chip fitted it should be run at a minimum on Optimax + Octane Booster otherwise the engine will be susceptable to Detonation due to the additional ignition advance and boost. Fitting a Knocklink will give early warning of DET but ultimately it would be advisable to have the map adjusted to suit our fuel

Cheers

The ECU is under the passenger side footwell, take out ecu, remove cover to see what has been placed in the area shown on the piccy below:-

It will either be a single chip which may be soldered to the board or a 'piggyback' board plugged into a chip holder

Cheers

Prova chips are normally mounted direct to the board, but I wouldn't go as far to say they are 'WELL' soldered

Just had a look. There's a board that's plugged onto the highlighted pins. Board covers the entire area above the 4 square black 'thingies'. Doesn't look like it's soldered in, just plugged in.

Who is Pavlo ??

If you want, you can take it out then reconnect 'JP1' then you will be running on the OE map.

JP1 is a zero resistance link, so you can use link wire to do the job.

click on the fitting instuctions at http://www.scoobyecu.co.uk/ and basically follow them in reverse.

In fact, you don't even have to remove the Prova PCB, just remake the JP1 link and it will run the OE map.

Wink

The OE map will run less boost and ignition advance reducing the possibility of DET until you get a remap

Basically, the board is made up of 4x black 'thingies' (excuse my technical ignorance)exactly the same as the ones on the 'original' board, this board os plugged onto the highlighted area as the pic.
The other question is, how do I know this car hasn't already been mapped to UK fuel ???

Prova are a Japaense Tuning firm, so it would be mapped to run on Japanese fuel.
They used to just supply modified chips to plug into ECU. But now they do just that then rebaded the ECU.

Get someone to either 'suck' the map from the ECU or remove the Eproms from the additional board and extract the program using an Eprom programmer

If you send me the chips I can read them and decode them.
I already have a Prova Map on my hard drive, so it may well be the same as that (depending on year).

Of all the Jap Maps the Prova appear to be the safest, although still a little bit peaky for UK fuel.

If you then decide to get it changed I probably have something suitable to programme them with. You may not get a perfromance gain but it will be a little safer for UK fuel and the spool up may be slighlty improved.

Other on here are running my maps, supplied about 85 last year totally via ScoobyNet (but packed it in Christmas 2003).

advanced for 98 or 100 octane petrol(Japan premium)
Bit naughty of them to state 98ron then...

You could do what i am doing in a couple of weeks if you had delta dash (arriving in 2 weeks cuz new USB version being released! ) and decrease ignition timing 1 or 2... from within the car and/or decrease boost!

I'm in a similar boat as you as i have a Prova mapped ECU but its on a MY01 STi (bug eye) and it is a very fast chip indeed.
Try out a standard STi and "FEEL THE DIFFERENCE!"
