MY99 ECU...
Is this anything special..
The other day I had a wee look at my ECU. Apart from the serial number on it, it said AE802 on it as well. Is this a Prodrive ECU, Standard ECU or some other kind of ECU?!
I bought the car from a Main Dealer who failed to notice that the car had the Prodrive Handling Kit and Prodrive Quickshift on it, it also came with a Prodrive B/Box, so thats why I am wondering if its a Prodrive ECU too...
I ran a 13.301@105mph in the car and many other runs were in the 13.3's. I have got no idea how I manage this if the car has got a standard ECU...........
Help greatly appreciated!!
Cheers,
Grant

Well.. I have just had a whole new short block, cyl-head and turbo from warranty, final bill was about 5k?!
They had to check all the numbers from the ECU to make sure it hadnt been 'modified' and that the standard fuel pump was sufficient. However, I would have thought that a TEK re-map would have shown up?!?
That has totally confused me now.. I take it that there are no signs to tell if the car has got a TEK re-map then!?

I thought it was only the MY00s that have the AE802...? If that's true, and your car originally had an AE800/801, it stands a good chance the previous owner sold the original ECU, and purchased a second hand AE802 to be Tek'd. That's what most people seem to do...

Looks like I'll have to invest in a boost gauge then!!
So does the AE802 respond better to the TEK re-map then?? It was definitely an 802, not an 800/801. My car is definitely a MY99 too...

Warranty? The dealers may well not know what ECU should be in there anyway! And there were a few dodgy ECUs AFAIK, & these would have been replaced with 802s, so no worries there, I think
On the ECU type: no, it's just the 802 is a bag of poo compared to the 800/801, so it tnds to be the one which is remapped more often
Seeming you've just had the engine rebuilt, and it seemed to be going pretty swiftly, I'd check the status of your MAF too (not using the dealer, as they can't tell). If dodgy, the ECU will underfuel, meaning the car will go like something off the end of a shovel until it goes pop.

So that you don't waste the good ones, i.e the 800 and 801. Because the 802 is the least powerful, you get one of those and get an Ecutek remap. Once you remap an ECU, whether it is an 800, 801, or an 802 there is no difference in the end result. It is only in standard trim that the 800 and 801 are better than the 802. The advantage of not remapping an 800 or an 801 is that you can get better cash for them if you sell them as stardard than you would get for a standard 802.

Not a great deal maybe 10BHP, but drivability and off-boost smoothness would be improved. Have a look in the ECU section of www.ecutek.com which compares AE801 to AE802

I think the 802 was introduced as a safer map. Something about improved knock correction and all that, I think. But of course the downside was a little less power.
I doubt many people would go to the trouble of selling their 801 for an 802 as the difference is only around £20. May well have had the PPP and sold that ECU for an 802 and tek 3. 13.3 can't be std, can it? Sounds more like a lightly modded car to acheive that time.
