Question Newb to Scoob.......advice desperatly needed....

Hi all, and thanks in anticipation.......

This is my first post, and apologies if its in the wrong place etc.....

Currently I drive a nicely modded MK6 Escort....(slow and boring/boy racer i hear you all cry..... ) but i like the car, or should i say liked the car....

I am extremely tempted to "go jap"...and not just any jap, an Impreza, hence my post on such a forum.....

I'm 22 at the moment, and have got an insurance quote on a Turbo 2000, £2700

What i'm really after is advice, is a Turbo 2000 classic any good?...

any major faults?

subaru servicing costs??

MPG?

you know, basically running costs of what to me would be an awesome vehicle.

I've never driven RWD, not to mention all wheel drive, nor have i ever driven a turbo, or even been in a turbo....anything to bear in mind from going from a 1.6 16v (yes, engine that small do exists people!! lol)

who are you insured with or getting quotes from? check out the insurance section here. Im 24 insured with tesco, £1000 fc with protected no claims.

I have a my99 turbo, standard apart from a scoobysport back box. I have had the car for a year now and still get massive grin factor out of it.

MPG isnt great, but im getting about the same out of the 1litre corsa courtesy car atm :P depends how you drive i suppose.

Where abouts in essex are you? my advice would be to go to a showroom like the turbo center in cuffley or somewhere else and take a close up look around the car, arrange a test drive but be warned < 2 seconds into my test drive I had already decided that I was going to buy it, the sound is pretty damn sexy

Im sure the others will be along soon to beef up my comments

Buy one, dam the expense!!!

Great cars, huge grin factor :-)))))

I'd try either Tesco or Elephant for the insurance.

insurance quote was with elephant.....

i'm a real newb to scoob....

i've heard them, they sound cool, but is this cos they are modded? or do they sound orgasmic as standard?

all i anticipate doing to one (if not already done) is to add a back box, or complete system, and possibly some nice wheels.

i said i was hoping to get one to someone this weekend and they said they had heard they cost a lot to keep on the road....is this correct??

the expense aint reaaaaly a factor, cos i know the fun will outweigh the cost, but its best to know what you are getting into before youbuy one if you know what i mean....

thatnks for ya help so far peeps!

They do sound fairly good as standard, although a sports back box will make it a lot throatier.

I've got a MY02 WRX and it does between 19 and 28 mpg, it has got through a couple of sets of tyres and also 3 sets of front pads but i do a lot of town driving.

I think my local dealer charges about 65 or 70 quid an hour but a specialist may well be less.

get one mate! i did and love every minute! have you considered a jap import?? a fair bit quicker, esp if you got an STi, insurance will prob reflect this though. i assume u have no no claims? i'm with elephant paying £1000 for a Jap STi??? with 4 yrs no-claims...

Petrol is a beeeeeeeeeeeeeeach though. (but worth evey penny!)

If you've never been in a turbo you never forget your first! esp when driving, nice feeling the push in the back getting stronger an stronger as it begins to come in! i wanna go for a drive now!

where in essex are you???

the scooby was more easy to drive than anything i owned before! and still so in fact the tuscan is seriously tail happy! there are also the more civilised drivers there that would take you for a gentle plod just to see how they drive without the skill you think they need!

quite the opposite mate!

once you've been in one you'll wanna get your cheque book out there and then! i'll be quite happy to take you out for a spin.

I found the scoob pretty easy to drive rapidly, certain things take mastering like taking roundabout sideways but its just about practice! cant practice till you get one!

I'm not complaining at my MY00, love it - loads of subtle mods to be had and the classic scoob makes all the kids stare more than the newer models (STI aside).

can get around 300 miles out of tank if you're driving with best behavior, otherwise expect sub 200!

Servicing not the cheapest, and parts from a dealer can be really expensive but there's loads of links on SN to find them cheaper.

Ride quality is a little rough, especially when you live in such a rural area as I do, but then, but there's not a lot that can keep up with you, so enjoy it. and upgrade the backbox - driving down a narrow street with the burble bouncing of the walls either side is fantastic.

how conveiniently local that xtremescoobies is........

though £683 for 90k service sounds a lot....but i drive a ford so i spose it would.

is that a standard price?..or is it low, high?

love the bit where it says they are based on windy rural roads, sort of teasing you with the fact you can take your scoob for a spin, but rightly so, saying be respectful....lol
