Question Possible ECU Change

I have an UK MY96 with full de-cat and Induction kit, Dawes, Boost gauge, AFR gauge, Lightened flywheel, Organic cluth (hense flywheel) VTA dump valve.

I was told, although I don't know alot about it, that I could change the ECU for one from an STI or more powerful model. IIRC the immobiliser circuits are run through the ECU on pre MY99 cars.

Reason for my question is I have been offered a different ECU from a friend and was wondering what to do next!!

Any idea's or suggestions.... Is this person full of Shi** or semi-knowledgable.

I would just go for a re-map but money is virtually none existant.

Thanks in advance

Ed
