A similar mod would be a swap for a MY99/00 MAF with more than 5k miles on it

Just drop a dab of araldite across a small segment of the AFM wire. It thinks much less air is available than it is and instantly you have a dangerously lean mixture. Cost $0.20, result, dead engine
