Sti2 shuddering in first gear
Hi Folks, one of my usual stupid questions -
Lately my car seems to be shuddering quite a lot when i pull away at low revs in first gear (or reverse). It only really does it when pulling away slow, like first thing in the morning, but it still does it when warmed up (i.e. sitting in slow moving traffic). The clutch is not showing any signs of slipping, although i think it is the original one. Could this be a sign of impending MAF failure? Anyone else had similar problems?
Have boost guage and afm, which are showing the normal readings and the car has just been serviced, just over 50,000mls on the clock.
Car is MY96 Sti2, Blitz full system, Scooby-ecu....
Ta in advance for any help,
Cheers, Dodge

Hello Dodge, er, Dodge here...
I'm strictly non-mechanical, but it sounds like good old clutch judder, which occurs when the flywheel and clutch surfaces aren't entirely flat, i.e they have raised areas, and they slip/stop together.
The clutch could still be a good, i.e. not slipping, but a lot of scoobs have this judder.
When you say the clutch is not slipping - do it still have a pronounced biting point? Mine faded away to a gradual engagement as the pedal was lifted - and I didn't realise how bad it was slipping until it started slipping at high revs/full acceleration too and I had it replaced with a fine organic clutch from API Engines.
Depending where you go, a new clutch = £550 - £900, and a new flywheel = £215 ish, by the way!

Thanks for your reply, Dodge, didn't know i had a namesake on here!
Think you could be right about clutch judder, have done some reading up about it, and sounds like what i'm getting. I do still have a biting point, not sure if its still at the same point tho.
Only noticed the problem over the last week or two, so maybe the clutch is not really slipping yet.
Am i right in thinking that a good launch will clear this for a while?
Thanks again, Dodge(2)

PS: Did you too once have a misguided attraction to cars with American 8 litre V10s that couldn't go round corners?
