What can I replace my 99 STi05 engine with?
Hello all. I am a new user to this site but hope that it may help me.
Here's the deal, I managed to totally ruin dad's 1999 STi Version 05 engine, whilst not driving particularly hard at all. The problem is in the bottom(?) of the engine and I have been quoted a hefty price for a rebuild. I would like to find alternative engines that can fit into the STi engine bay keeping in mind I need a RELIABLE engine that will not cost too much in labour to install.
Currently it is 100% stock, and I am wondering what engine may fetch the most in terms of resale price (eg. is the ej25 really rare in the STi 2 door body, therefore increasing resale value?)
Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated
Thanks

STi, go to www.apiengines.co.uk and talk to the owner, David.
He is used to you kind of problem/questions, and can help you with options.

Agreed, talk to David. Big-end bearing failure is depressingly common, especially in STI engines, and it can happen whether you drive it particularly hard or not. Has the car been recently serviced by any chance?
IMHO a completely standard engine is your best bet for resale, though you may want to have a few critical components (bearings) upgraded to try and prevent a repeat of the same failure. Spending extra on, say, an EJ25, will give you a much faster car, but not necessarily a much more valuable one.
Ballpark price for removal and refitting of an engine is about £400-£450.
