Which panel filter?

Which panel filter?
Have removed my HKS ram air filter and its improved smoothness, but reduced power - DOH!
I still want the gain in power a filter offers, but without the noise and jerky-ness a ram air filter gives, besides the car has 78k on now i want it to last! So i'm going to put a panel filter on, but which one? K&N are my perferred but what do they perform like?
Also, apart from chipping, what other ways can power be increased? I already have a full sports exhaust.

Only reason its probably more powerful is because its causing it to lean out The heat soak on those things is not good.
Green cotton filter, STi, and K&N are top of the list.
