Default KnockLink Sensitivity

I need help with the above.

Fitted the KL a couple of weeks ago and thought i had the sensitivity setup ok. Its set a couple of line back from full.

Since i fitted the KL i put a panel filter in and replaced the box in the wing with a tube directing air from the front staight into the air box.

When i was putting my foot down on the motor way it was flickering on the Amber lights.

It wasn't a quick flash as though it was a Det, It was just rising up the lights. Would it need re adjusting?

Thanks

Dave

Rising up the lights doesn't sound good mate !

Why would you expect a quick flash only > maybe its permanent detting ?

Where is the KL fitted >
What MY car is it >
What lights were on the KL prior to the panel filter ?
Do you have any other mods ?

Mines on fully sensitive (which I think most are), but I wouldn't mask it by further adjustment, unless you're VERY sure its not det...

Its a MY94 WRX JDM, Fully decatted, JETEX panel filter, Z4 ECU, Baileys Dump Valve.

The KL Sensor is fitted just in front of the intercooler on the passenger side but on the engine block. The Display is in the front of the rev counter.

Before the panel filter the lights weren't really flashing.

I've got a VOS chip on order and was going to take it to book it into Power Engineering shortly afterwoods so ill prob get them to check out.

Hello Dave,

A couple of years back, I fitted a KL on a MY96 STi ver 2 Type RA, made sure it was functioning "normally" and that the owner was happy. Several weeks later, he replaced the already loud muffler with a louder one and the noise was resonating back to the engine causing the KL to rise to red all the time. The engine was not detting but there was sufficient resonance to cause the KL to behave like an equaliser LED. "Fully Decatted" may be the closest likelihood of your KL's behaviour but I would get the MAP checked out.

Hope that helps.

Should always be on MAX.

Spikes are more of a worry, a rise up the lights may be a fitting / wiring issue, but best to get PE to look at it, and drive nicely in the meantime

You using the right fuel?

Worth noting that I would get 2 greens after my remap at PE in January....

Having said that, when AndyF fitted and mapped my PowerFC last month, he said he could JUST hear DET with cans when my KL was showing red, so greens weren't anything to worry about....

My main concern from your point of view would be the change in behaviour - I'm sure PE will be able to confirm whether its real knock or just background noise (I still get a steady flash of the first light at 85 mph cruise, even though I'm virtually throttle closed - suspect this is some noise from somewhere....)

My money would be on the above causing it to run lean, together with (unless I'm mistaken), the fact that you are running a JDM car without octane booster.

Edit to say that if a hefty dose of octane booster gets rid of the lights, it's det.

Ill try some octane booster to see if that helps.

I have also just received the VOS chip which i believe is mapped fo 95 Ron, so would this help?

if no lights with octane booster or toluene then rest assure is DET
or drive car to high rpm with no boost (2nd &3nd gear) and if knocklink no lighting up then its detonating when boosted

It only starts flashing when i boot it at more than 80 mph. Its only the greens flash before that.

My car and a few other get a bit of on and off boost engine noise at around 4000 RPM.

Its enough to light the first green and happens at 4000rpm irrespective of gear or load.

My car was mapped using det cans, so I know there is no det.
