Default Changing PPP ECU to standard ECU

Having read a few post i gather that it is possible to remove the Prodrive ECU i have fitted in my Impreza and replace it with a standard Subaru ECU. I do not have the original ECU as i bought the car 2nd hand from a dealer, will i need to find somebody who wants to swap, or will have to buy a standard WRX ECU from somewhere?

You might have issues with the keys?

Yes you can replace it with a STd ECU

it would depend on the Model Year but PPP doesn't 'just' comprise off an ECU.

MY98-00............... ECU(soldered in chip), Induction Pipe and Silencer
My01 WRX............. ECU(soldered in chip), Decat pipe and Silencer
MY02 STi................ECU(soldered in chip) Sports Cat, Silencer and Fuel Pump
MY02(late)04 STi.....ECU(EcuTek) Sports Cat, Silencer and Fuel Pump

PPP ECU normally has a resale Value, say, a STD ECU + £XXX or just XXX pounds on it's own. std ECU bought from a Scrappy . IIRC

Your Absolutely correct if you change the ECU will need to get the Fob's reprogrammed in.

I believe they use a 'Select monitor' to get the ECU to 'Learn' ALL the fobs or the Engine won't start most good dealers don't charge much for reprograming fobs

Depends on what MY car you both have. 97 wont fit 99/00 etc... Sounds like this is a MY01>

The car is a bugeye 01 WRX. The main reason for removing it is that ive picked up 3 points as has my girlfriend since we bought the car which has put the insurance up a bit now, and with Directline it will push it up by over £200 for a full year. If i can swap it for cash + standard ECU i was hoping it would go someway to covering next years premium.

volcano,
If you do swop with someone just swop the both key Fobs (not keys) it will save having to reprogram IIRC

BTW as i said PPP is not just the ECU is also exhaust components

It's possible to remove the ECU and all the other parts and swap it with another car but you will need a dealer to do this as the ECU needs to be recoded to work on the car.

Look at it this way, £200/yr is not much more than 50p a day or £4 a week. Less than 2 pints of beer, 1 bottle of wine or 1 packet of ****

Surely it's worth that to enjoy the car rather than put it back to std..... Turn a few lights off

I've just had a PPP ECU soldered to my MY01 and there was no need to programme the keys........

Maybe he hasn't driven a Std WRX 01 or he'd cut out his own liver, sell it on Ebay to make the money up LOL
