Question opinions please

av got alot of miles on engine and expect it will go bang at some point have got 96 U.K. turb been told sti 8 short block with classic heads will replace my old block is this true coz iv had conflicting reports if so any ideas of costings on 2nd hand and brand new

what kind of BHP can i get from a standard STI 8 block and would i be better of buying shortblock and gearbox

if iv got heads of should i port pollist and flow them??

also been told it will fit coz classic shape scoobs are putting 6 speed sti gearboxes on, is there much needed to change gearbox over or just a strait swap

oh yeah and after all this i take it my very restrictive ECU will obviously be holding me back so what are my options with this???

sorry am new to this

Classic heads will not fit on a STI block.

A new short motor for a classic is about £1500.

Err WRONG!

Classic heads will fit an sti short block!

Given the sti will be a EJ207 short block, and all Impreza 2.0 litre turbo are derivatives of an EJ20 block, the heads will fit.

why change heads and block, why dont you just change internals when they go.

I have just blown big end (130,000mls), my block looks fine, just going to get valves done, block cleaned up and new pistons/rods etc.

Presumably you'll need a new crank sparky, unless you get into the seedy world of crank regrinding?

why don't classic heads fit an sti 8 short block?

phase 1 and phase 2 are interchangable arent they?

why not 1 and 2 and 3?

I know the inlet manifold on the late car is slightly wider and as such the inlet ports are slightly further apart but if you fit an early manifold to match the heads then why won't it fit?

Adam, they do.

Eg Sti7/8 uses the Ej207 block yes, and bob runs an EJ207 short block with his classic heads in his STi5.

Thumbs up

billyfish235 i stand corrected.

I had a new short block fitted to my UK 96 Turbo a few months ago and the garage which did the job had a few probs getting a block to fit. They were offered newer blocks but they did not fit my heads. They eventually found a brand new EJ20 block which they fitted.

Cheers Red.
