Hi Folks,

I am new to this impreza lark and I have to say that it's wicked! But the fun has started to disappear with a really annnoying problem..... I have a bog standard 1998 2 litre turbo saloon and before it's recent service the engine would cut completely for a second when floored in fifth gear at about 3000 revs, then pick up again, then cut again then pick up etc until about 4,500 revs and it would pull again. This got worse and started to happen in lower gears as well when ragging it.

Now after a seriously expensive service it will only do it in fifth again but the problem still remains. Someone has told me that it is a sticking valve on the boost circuit ( I don't know which one or if this person knows anything anyway!), but peoples explanations of overboost seem to fit my symptoms.

What I don't understand is that the car is standard......

Can anyone shed any light on this please?

Yes it sounds like fuel cut due to overboost. First thing to try cleaning the wastegate solenoid. Do a search to find out how to do this

Agreed with the above: Sounds like dealer overfilled the oil and it's fouled the boost control solenoid.
