Turbo performance in high ambient temperatures
Hi,
Just come back from holiday where there were lots of imprezas, but none were turbos. The average daily temperature was between 35 - 40 degrees C so I'm assuming the lack of turbos was at least partly because the performance of a turbo in that sort of temperature would be pretty diabolical.
Anyone out there care to shed any light on the likely bhp of say, a standard UK 215 bhp turbo at 35 and/or 40 degrees C?
<fighting talk>Incidentally, we hired a Mitsu Lancer and it was terrible.</fighting talk>
<peace talk>Although to be fair it was only a 1.3 auto!</peace talk>
We paid a sobering £6.50 for 38 litres of fuel, too! And for everyone that says Air Con is a bad thing, I have to say it's totally justified itself to me now...

From: North Yorks, MY03 PPP, now run a Mondeo ST TDCI 06
My boost drops to 8psi, from 19 in very hot weather. Usually has over 30C and standing for a short time, but once moving again the boost soon returns.
Feels like there is no more than 200BHP, from the 265BHP Prodrive pack, when it happens.
