I have a problem with my93 wrx . when cold if you turn the key on it will turn over but not start ? . on the dash display a light shaped like a cat converter will flash in time with the ticking . once the ticking stops the cel and others will eluminate and the car will start and run fine . the car has a full decat ? the ticking comes from a devise on top of the o/s strut ,which has 3 pipes to it and electrical wires ? any ideas would be a great help . regards

 

Sounds like the boost control solanoid that you are describing.

 

Sounds to me like the ecu reset connectors are connected.

Look under the steering column, and you will see lots of wires. In particular your looking for a black spade connector and a green spade connector. If these are joined to corresponding connectors, they need to be un plugged.

Sounds more confusing than it is.
