Default Power steering pump - help please

Hello

Power steering's been pretty whiney for a while on my lovely imported MY94 WRX & the steering's getting a bit heavy at low revs so guess the pump's on its way out.

Pretty stunned at the £300k + VAT price tag I'm getting for the replacement part only (same price for service of the existing pump) with 2 hours labour (£100 +VAT) and fluid on top. Had a chat with the nice guys up at Town End Garage & sounds as tho this is a fairly common problem with the power steering pumps so wondering if anyone has found a way around these prices?

Thanks for your help, all much appreciated.

Oh, and live in SW London - if anyone's got any tips on good independant garages for standard maintenance, would be very grateful.

i paid around £40 second hand for mine when my ps pump went on my 92 wrx. Fitted it myself in around an hour and used it without any problems for 2yrs before selling the car. if i found it easy to fit, any local garage should be able to fit it
