Default Irritating Rattle!!

Hi guys,
my97 wrx has had a very irritating rattle under the bonnet since it's come, (like 8months ago) and i never get around to doing anything about it. It sounds like a metal plate vibrating really fast at around 1500rpm to 3000rpm. it seems to be somewhere under the turbo anyone know what it could be, it's well noisy when i start the car in the morning and the car is warming up at 1500rpm arrrggggrrrrrr

cheerz,

suhail

Sounds like one of the heat shields around the exhaust. Which one, is impossible to say without seeing the car. You'll need to have a poke about, and find the offending shield. One of the mountings will have snapped.

it`ll be either 1 of the heatsheids as allready said.....or ....it`ll be the bracket that bolts from the side of the 1st cat to the gearbox ......the bracket will be cracked or completly broken ......this bracket is part of the cat itself.....a lot of garages will try and sell you the cat ........if it is that just get it welded .

thanks guys, will have a look tomorrow morning, also, i have an hks decat downpipe, so i guess that rules out the bracket being broken right? I also noticed that oil seems to be dripping from the sump or whatever it is just infront of the downpipe underneath the car, i don't know whether it's the sump or diff, i'm not too technically minded bout the scooby yet, but i'm learning could be oil from another part of the engine being blown far back by the fans, oil seems to be blackish brownish, i'm thinking it could be powersteering fluid as i've had that problem before??

Thumbs up

wrxtasy,

Have a look down between the rad and engine on the left hand side. I've seen a few go there.

Red.

Hey guys,
i found the offending heat shield today, it was on the uppipe, sheild seemed to be cracked in half and there were no bolts, i just tightened the two peices by twisting and turning and it seems to have held temporarily, will be upgrading my turbo soon so will also have to change uppipe, thanks guys

cheerz,

suhail
