Default Back end stepping out.

Very slowly i have been noticing that the rear of my car has been getting easier and easier at stepping out in the wet.

I have recently had 18" wheels fitted and it has been getting worse.

Would it be something to do with the Anti roll bars or something?

Starting to panic now as the ice and snow is here soon.

First thing to do is to check out your tyres, look for unusual or un-even wear patterns that would indicate something is up with the geometry. The lower profile tyres on the 18s will be far fussier about geometry being right than 16s or 17s, so you may well just have a geometry problem that hasn't shown up before, and now you new tyres are wearing in un-evenly. Obviously also check for tyre pressures / leaks/ slow punctures. Other than that, perhaps you have a suspension bush on the way out that is allowing excessive wheel movement. Finally, are you sure you aren't just driving harder ?

Some of those do make sense.

I possibly am driving a little harder, but my mate also thinks there is something afoot. He has an Rb5 and handling is so much better round the corners in the wet.
Tyre wear seems ok, but a garage would need to set correctly.
I think the Roll bar bushes look a little warn and there is a little play in it.

The wheels are fitted with 215x35's and since the change from 16's to 18's thats when i noticed the change in handling.

Where is a good place to purchase some rear anti roll bar bushes?
Standard will do but if not then Upgrades. On a budget though as it's nearly xmas again.

hello mate...

could be with 18s your losing stability as you need to change the full lot...bushes..etc etc

you could get the anti roll from demon tweeks..they not too bad on prices..

else try motor-world.co.uk theyr pretty good..

hope this helps..

That could be your problem there. What tyres have you put on the 18's? Different tyres = different handling characteristics

it is quite a common characteristic for this to happen when putting larger wheels/lower profile tyres on,on the o.e size the chassis is set up for overall driveability and the car is often more forgiving due to the sidewall been able to flex more to take out the bumps in the road and when driven on the limit but what happens when putting ultra low profile tyres on is that there is virtually no flex in the tyres so when driving on the limit here it tends to be more grip or no grip,i.e when the tyre is on its limit of grip it only needs the slightest upset to lose all of its grip due to there being no flex in the tyre,to be honest i would say that the size you are running is more suited to the track than on the road.

Same problem with MY95 UK. It has been getting worse BUT the tyres on the back are Avon ZZRs which are a) Rubbish - especially in the wet and b) Near the end of their tread life. Fronts are F1s and have loads of grip.
I actually quite like the way it handles... :-) Until I lose it big time.. :-o

Problem is on the IOM you don't have anywhere that can do 4 wheel geometry so the settings are going to be miles out.

Trip off the rock is prob advisable for a full checkup and check the bushes etc too.
