Default Oil Temperature Gauge- Correct reading?

Hi there,
I have a MY01 WRX and just installed a boost gauge and oil temperature gauge in my A- pillar. The boost gauge is working fine but what i want to know is what should be the correct reading for the oil temperature gauge. Its a Tims Oil temp gauge and on normal running it reads between 90-100 degrees but in traffic it goes up to 120 to near 150 degrees max. I heard this can also read as a engine temp gauge too. Now i was told the oil gauge may be a bit out as the sensor is near the sump plug and the ideal location should be in the sump itself..which means taking the sump out.

Can anyone help?

normal temp for me is about 88degs.
in traffic rises to sometimes 91degs so your values seem high.
I tapped mine into the top of the block with a lemans-motorsport adaptor.
if you call them and tell them you need an adaptor for a scooby they know which one it is straight away.
for more details do a search for Ozzy, Stefen has a website full of good installation tips, of which one I know is oil temp sender,

Andy

Thanks Peanuts

Ok do you have the link for the website or address?. Also does it still mean taking the sump out?. I told this may be needed in order to get the readings spot on.

Does sound seem quite hot.

Seeing it's fitted in the sump area - could it be a remote possibility that the sender is suffering from heat soak from the exhaust headers?

Thanks again guys. Gave it a good hard run yesterday stuck at 90 most of the time but went up to 120 degrees ticking over and not in traffic it could be getting a bit of heat soak from somewhere i'll keep an eye on it. I've checked around and most ppl get readings from 88 - 90 degrees on normal runnning so maybe ok. I'll give those sites a look and enquire.

i've got a vdo oil temp gauge and sender. i had to recalibrate the gauge as it was reading 10deg c too high every were. i put the sender above no3 and see around 80-85deg when just driving and around 90-95deg when driving hard for about 5min but never goes above 85 when sitting in traffic.
this is with an ej257 but im only running 8-9psi boost as it all still needs tuning.
