Question Sump guard

After doing an oil change on my P1 yesterday i didn't have time to replace the big plastic sump guard, do i need to put it back on (for road use), or can i leave it off and maybe increase cooling around the engine bay?

Cheers...Rob.

Funny this Rob - I have a MY00 and I did an oil change today and I too have left the plastic guard off too. Unfortunately 2 of the bolts are foobarred hence the reason for me not putting it back on I think I'll leave it off for the time being as you say its gotta be better for cooling underneath

i have been running with mine off ever sine i fitted my gruppe-s headers.
When i had my remap done Bob said he had taken his off on both the STi5 and 9 and it def help reduce under bonnet temps.

The only time i have had an interesting experience with leaving mine off was when i went through a rather large puddle and caused a huge cloud of steam from the exhuast manifold, looked like i had gone up in smoke!!

Course they ain't really sumpgaurds. Wouldn't be much good on a special stage. I think undertrays have appeared on cars to help improve aerodynamics and smooth airflow under the car thus helping fuel economy (on Scoobs lol) and therefore manufacturers can say to legislaters we're improving economy.

have left mine off aswell to aid cooling (not cos I'm a lazy git! ). Do take the guard off the gearbox also or it will remove itself at high speed (mine went @120).
