ABS Fuse keeps blowing... 20A ABS Solenoid #8
V4 STi
Interior fuse panel, number 8 'ABS SOLENOID' apparently.
Keep blowing... to my knowledge the cars ABS has never come on.. I noticed this as I skided in traffic the other day .. so no ABS warning light... everytime I put a fuse in it pops..
I have been round both fuse boxes and ensured they are consistant with my owners manual in terms of size but still the ABS one pops with a slightly bigger sized fuse the same
I know very little about this malarky but willing to try anything now.
Will the fuse alone be the problem... dodgy ABS unit... sugestions guys.
Thanks in advance!

Does the fuse blow as you are fitting it into the socket. If it does then you have a pure short. Should be relatively easy to track down with a wiring diagram of the car, disconnecting connectors and tracing the short with a digi- meter.

Well as soon as the blades touch it sparks then say 5-10 secs later it pops and a small blue flicker.
I'm not too techy when it comes to the electrics.

You will need to brake down the fault finding process into stages, a wiring diagram of the car would help, but for starters, (not sure if your car is the same as MY99 for ABS) locate the ABS Control unit and remove any plugs, should be located inside the car, on the top of the transmission tunnel under where the radio is located.
Also remove the plug that connects to the ABS Modulator unit, the thing under the bonnet with all the brake pipes coming out of it. MY99 offside front.
With these unplugged, put the correct fuse back in to see if it blows again.
If it does this may indicate a wiring loom short, if it doesn’t try plugging the control unit back in, it's a process of elimination without a full wiring diagram.
Hope this is of some help.

It sits behind the ashtray on the MY99; it's screwed to the transmission tunnel, so you have to remove radio and that part of the dash to get at the plug. It's about 4"x3" and 1cm in height.

It may not be these items that are faulty, I have just given you a path to follow, there are also some relays in circuit somewhere, and this may require tracing the wire from the output side of the fuse box to locate them.
If you can get hold of a wiring diagram this will make life much easier.
If you find the fuse still blows when you disconnect the two units it must be a short in the loom or relays, 24 amps is a lot of current to be drawn by these units. That is why they put the relays in there.
I would not like to guess the price of these units if one is faulty, but I would say prepare to drop trousers and bend over.

my MY97 has ABS, but i dont think its working, ive tried testing it number of times, but it just skids? the fuses havent blown in the fuse board behind the coin tray.... and ABS all looks connected ok...
any ideas? i havent had a ABS warning light appear on dash?
cant feel the brakes juddering at all when forcing braking
