Default C.E.L - Should I get it checked out ?

Hi,

I was driving down the M1 today when I noticed the Check Engine light had come on. I can't link it to anything specific as we had been travelling at a constant 60-70mph in traffic for some time.

I decided to press on as other warning lights, temp, boost, knocklink all checked out OK and the engine was running fine. After about 100 miles the light went out.

Is the C.E.L always an indication of something serious even if there are no other symptoms ? Any ideas how much a dealer would charge for a Select Monitor report ?

The car is a MY00 UK with full decat, K&N induction and Tek 2.5. Also, it was serviced just last week.

Thanks,

Andy.

Dealer will check it free, or you can do it yourself by finding the green and black connectors under the dash. Do a search for "ecu fault code" and you will find instructions.

It will most likely be something simple like an 02 sensor fault. Best to get it checked though.

Nice one Mark, I'll look up the procedure.

Cheers,

Andy.
