If its a UK car and still has the standard Sigma alarm, then the bleep from the siren when cranking indicates low vehicle battery voltage (the battery back-up siren thinks that the power has been cut and starts to sound for a fraction of a second before realizing that the alarm is not in an armed state) - this could be an indication that your battery or starter motor is on the way out and drawing too much current.
You can check the vehicle's battery voltage using the keypad (in the coin tray on 01MY) - with the ignition on press the radio key button briefly, press button 8 on the keypad, turn the ignition off within 5 seconds. The alarm's dashboard LED (beside the clock in the centre binacle) will then flash-back the vehicle battery voltage 10 flashes=10 volts. This is for the standard fit UK alarm (Sigma) only - I can't advise om the Black Jax. Hope this helps,

Cheers mate, the battery is as dead as a do-do, no lights on the dash at all. I've attached starter cables, then the power is back as you'd expect, but still the click then beep? Should it just start as normal when the power is back??

Right, have a full battery, have reset the black jax, have entered the key code into the box, and still nothing, a click then a beep?? Is it anything to do with the bonnet being up?? I know I'm clutching at straws, but I'm at my wits end with this??? Can anyone help

Is this the standard Sigma alarm or Clifford?

Try fitting a new battery to the car, jump leads are notoriously unreliable, give poor connections and have thin wiring, therefore will give you dash lights but just go click because there is not enough current to turn the starter. If still no joy, try the starter, but unusual on a scoob.

I can't comment on the Black Jax operation and how it may immobilize, but provided the Sigma system's immobiliser has been disarmed prior to attempting to start the engine in the normal way (either using the PIN and keypad or the remote) then it will not try to re-arm regardless of the the battery voltage dropping away - this is a Thatcham requirement that vehicle battery voltage cannot effect the systems status. Try with a new battery, as opposed to the jump leads, if the starter motor tries to turn the engine then this would indicate that the Sigma system is operating as it should. If so, then I would be inclined to look to the vehicle or Blackjax next - someone who knows this system would be better to advise (I do not know how this is wired and how it may effect things) but IGNORE the SIREN BLEEP this is simply the siren indicating LOW BATTERY VOLTAGE and nothing else!

agree with what has been said, are you sure the battery is fully charged..
The battery went flat so is probably fubar anyway, buy a new one and hopefully problem solved.. the alternator and starter are never normally a problem (touches wood) mine have 157,000miles on them.

I had a starter motor go on my MY02 WRX when it was 6 months old.
If the Blackjax goes off or has gone off i think that it will totally disable the electrics, so you won't even get a beep. If it's been installe correctly it should have it's own working battery back up.

the black jax ill have a bonnet switch on the car thus not letting you start the car as the alarm thinks its being hot wired. get something heavy to put onto the switch so the alarm thinks the bonnet is down. we have exactly the same problems with jags at work
hope it helps

The Blackjax doesn't work on bonnet pins.
The easiest thing to do is take the BlackJax out of the equation by putting it into Valet mode.....enter the code into it's keypad in the usual way and then press and hold the unmarked button for approx 5 seconds. The LED will light and stay lit indicating valet mode.
I think it is battery related. I've had similar problems when one of the battery terminals was loose. Everything would work but the starte would click instead of turning. Sounds like not enough current to turn the starter.

Well as expected it was the battery, so got it started, thanks. Now the entire point was to test the Maf as the car has been off the road for a month now. So fitted the new maf, car started, struggled to idle for a while, but eventually settled down, but CEL light is on. Took it for a spin round the block and everything seemed to be fine, but switched it off, and now will not start at all again fookin thing just as I thought it was fixed!!! So kept trying to start and eventually it started, but revs to 3000, then dies !!!!
Anyone any ideas on that one now
