Default Fitting Prodrive ECU to a classic

I have sourced a PPP ECU for my MY98 UK Turbo and want to try and fit it myself.

From what i've heard it should just swap with my existing ECU and run without any problems

Can anyone give me any advice on fitting

Where is the ECU located exactly in a classic, is it an easy job to do, and how do i reset the ECU afterwards, is it just a case of disconnecting the battery.

Also do i need to take it to a dealer to have the immobiliser reset, if my car has an aftermarker Cobra Alarm

cheers

Ash

the ECU is situated under the passenger side carpet (where the soles of your feet rest!). Remove carpet and you will see a metal 'can/shield', remove this and the ECU sits in its own 'can/shield'. Not sure on my98, but on a my99 it's just a matter of swopping plugs over. If ECU has been unplugged for a while there will be no need to 'reset' the ECU. Cant help with your alarm tho'.

It is a "very" easy upgrade........!

The alarm shouldn't cause any problems.

The immobiliser will though

Needs the keys recoding IIRC.

'97 AND '98 cars WILL need the immobiliser re set with the new ECU or you won't be able to start the car. IIRC you may well have the same problem if you remove and then replace the original ECU, so just trying it may not be a great idea.

On my '97 car I pulled the carpet back, removed the cover and basically did everything bar changing the plugs from the old to the new and then took it to a dealer, they swapped the plugs over and re set the immobiliser for about £20.

I just phoned my local dealer and they quoted me £16 to redo the keys, but £65 to fit the ECU. Had a little argue with them and seems, i will have to fit it into the car on the road outside and then push it into their service garage!!!

makes me laugh!!!

If you have the carpet up you can swap the ECU in about a minute. Its just 2 plugs....

I like that, good plan, definately not paying for something i can do myself so will change it there and just get them to do the keys!

What sort of change in performance should i expect, I've heard extra 20bhp or so over standard in the MY98

I think 20 might be pushing it. Depends on your mods. Will be better than the one you have though

The PPP came with a larger I/C hose, larger back box and and uprated panel filter from memory?

Just being a bit diplomatic towards the robbin ******* at dealers lol
I think the figure prodrive quote is 20% Torque
The 97\98 prodrive ecu was pretty tame and as you should know you carnt do anything with the oem one..
Save ya pennies and get apexi well worth it.
Heres a link to the ppp my 99 gives you an idea.

Some do some don't.

Fitted PPP to a 1999 expecting to get keys recoded, it was fine. The car hadn't had a battery in for 2 months or an engine either. Started fine on OE ECU then turned off, disconnected the battery replaced ECU. Fine.

Did another 1999. Immobiliser needed doing. Why?! God knows.....!

You cannot put STi ECU on WRX,i'm afraid.
Because your WRX lacking AVCS and other features and this will cause more problems than one...
Probably wise for you will be get your ECU mapped etc.,its worth to do
