Question Help!!

I need some help with a few questions.....
Im looking to get my 1st scooby around the end of april but have heard a few different things about them.
Im looking at about an m-p reg but dont know wether to get a u.k. car or an import. I know about the power difference but have been told imports need to run on shell optimax or engine probs can occur (?)
Do imports cost considerably more to insure?
Would i be best off getting a fresh import that had been run on jap fuel and run that on optimax or get an import thats been over here a while being unsure as to what it had run on and does it make any difference?
Also are there any common porblems i sould be looking for?
Cheers for any help you can give and hopefuly i'll be joining the scooby owning elite soon!

All Japan Imports need to be run on 100 Octane fuel.

Optimax on it's own is not a high enough octane (98 RON)

You will also need to use an Octane Booster with every fill up.

You could have the car remapped with an Aftermarket ECU (such as Apexi Power FC) , so that it can run safely on the fuel of your choice.

IMO you should also have a Knocklink, to warn you of any detonation that may be occuring.

As for insurance, I don't know...Ring round for a few quotes.

Cheers mate, So id be best to get a new import so i could be sure of the fuel history. What octane boost do you use as some can cause lead buildup (?) also what sort of price do the ECU and knocklink go for?

WRT OBs, some use Millers, a lot seem to use NF (nitrous formula)

An apexi ecu can be supplied and mapped by Andy.F for around £750 IIRC, or you could get one direct from www.greenline.jp for around £450 ( so long as you don't end up paying the import duty on it )

Get a Knock Link from www.brdevelopments.com - I think that they are about £130

Regards

Richard
