Wrapping a downpipe with exhaust wrap
Hi all
Just about to lag my new downpipe before it's fitted. Should I use any type of treatment spray for the exhaust wrap to weather proof it? Or will it be ok as it is?
Also when wrapping should this be done with the wrap dry or otherwise? I'm sure I saw someone post that they made the wrap slightly damp before starting.
Cheers for the advice
Dave.

Dave,
i've just done my headers / up pipe / downpipe. used cooltek wrap. make sure its damp, you can do it tighter, and as it dries out it tightens up more. wear gloves when you put it on cos its itchy stuff and make sure the you dont wash the clothes you were wearing with the ladies underwear. i was not popular when she started itching.
you dont have to spray it, but if you dont you will get a lot of steam when you are sitting at junctions and its been raining. also the paint will make it last longer. i used hycote high temp spray. you can get this in red/clear/silver

Various places do Exhaust wrap.
http://www.agriemach.com/ will do you as 20% discount if you tell them your from Scoobynet They also have a table to work out how much you need.
Dampen the wrap before applying. I did hear with a spray/misting bottle is a good way, but not tried that.
Make sure you wear long sleaves and gloves!!!! A mask and good ventalation is probably a good idea too.
Wrap the pipe and leave it to dry, then just use a high temp exhaust paint from Halfrauds (Black, silver, what ever you choose). The paint will help stop water and oil ingress in to the wrap.
Don't worry about the steam and smell when you first start the car after fitting. Itwill go after a few days
I did the DP, headers and up pipe

Cheers guys! Great advice (as always!)
Gonna wait for some stainless steel jubilee clips to secure everything. Then I'll have a go!
The wrap I got from Think Auto is really thick - looks like a good quality wrap if anyone else is thinking of buying some but then I don't know how it compairs to the Agrimech stuff!
Cheers
