Unhappy Is my STI dead?

I have a year 2000 STI RA V.limited. Genuine 35000 miles. All was well until travelling home last week when I heard a faint rattling sound from the engine when under gentle acceleration. This became worse, much worse in fact in was like the proverbial steel band playing under my bonnet. The car actually ran fine (although I was nursing it somewhat) until it stopped and would not restart until it cooled.
It will start ok everytime, does not misfire and seems to run well - but the noise is like someone is hitting the engine with a hammer.
Any ideas someone please????

Stephen

Probably big end failure.
Have you had the oil changed recently?

To get it fixed/discussed call David at www.apiengines.co.uk

Tell him '911' sent you. Might curse but an ace bloke and company. Ask anyone on here.

Graham.

Good luck with the rebuild, I hope it goes well and does not cost you too much.

It will be a rock solid engine. You may want to have him fit a set of head studs to hold things together even more.
