Question Tapping sound on Bugeye??

As above when cold, not on tick over but when pulling out of the garage with slight revs there is a loud tapping noise which increases with the revs. Checked the oil and topped up (only slightly low) but the noise is still there and lasts about 10-15 minutes. Any ideas??

Cheers manners.

If it is more obvious when a load is applied to the engine when cold, as you describe, it is a classic symptom of piston slap. Needs to be listened to.

Try motul 300v 5w40, I'm sure that you will be amazed by how quiet your engine will run right from the start! (compared to bp 7000 sport or mobil1).

Note that 5w40 is way better for cold starts that 15w50...maybe thats the diff (and of course low oil....).

On my03, ocasional cold piston slap dissapear with the 5w40....lovely juice!

He-he, actually due to very good advice from Oilman and others from here, I switched to exactly motul 300v 5w40 about 2 month ago. The sound is still there and sometimes even when it is warmed up. I can also hear it at hard acceleration and warm engine sometimes... maybe it is smth else ?! I was thinking it might be some pump(water ??)
On the oil side I have to admit: it is fantastic! Never thought that I'll feel such a difference in power!! The best oil ever.

i use 15w50 on the advice of Bob Rawle, and it is excellent oil (i think as its motul it goes without saying ) I can perfectly understand why people use 5w40 though.
