strange sound at morning start-up
As title said, it started to do it a couple of days ago, only at the morning start-up. Later the day nothing and car runs well. Sounds like a ticking or maybe even knocking sound. If I slowly start to rev it, it dissapears at around 1500rpm.
Got quite scared, after doing this the 3rd consecutive time, so went to a Subaru garage, but it was not 1st start and there was no sound - so the guy couldn't tell me anything, just to monitor it. He said it my be that one of my belts is a bit loose.
I have a MY 02 with 13k, so I don't really think this is piston slap - but I have no clue how that sounds in fact. My oil level is also just a bit below the "notch" sign.
Anybody else had smth like this ?
I'd appreciate any comments.
Cheers,
B.

My 04 is very ticky and knocky when cold. The sound is more noticeable in the car than out.
Thinking about it..... compared to my old 99 the 04 engine is ticky all the time.

Unlikely to be anything serious. I notice "odd sounds" with mine all the time when cold! Most -if not all- scoobies tick. Cars are always noiser and sound different when cold. If the noise soon dissapears as the car is warming up and its not a distinct knocking sound, esp between 1500-2500 it's most likely nothing to worry about. If in doubt, take it to the dealer/a specialist though. Better safe than sorry, eh?
