Bob, firstly hats off to your STi9 project write up. I read all 23 pages of it, and just when it was getting so interesting you had to sell the car, which made me very ![Frown](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/frown.gif)
Not many tuners would go to the trouble of keeping such a detailed online catalogue, and your approach to offer friendly advice must be really commended![Smile](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Anyways, this brings me to my question to you. At the beginning of this year, I started with the "project 400" Basically its a project to take an MY05 STi to 400hp at the flywheel. I have been spending many hours on the internet over this, and finally now that I have managed to put together enough funds for this I have come to a crossroad, I would appreciate a bit of input from you with the experience you got; so here is what my options are:
Option 1) Buy a SA spec WRX STi, this is the same as the Aussie spec 260hp car. Pretty basic but comes with DCCD. My plans would be to go the FMIC, induction, Garret based 400hp hybrid, 750cc modified STi injectors, Walbro fuel pump, HKS oil cooler, and a 3.5" APS exhaust (we dont have exhaust laws down here) and last but not least ECUTek remap
I think this should take me pretty close to the 380-400hp mark
Option 2) This I have only been contemplating lately. Basically I can get a Jap Spec S203 landed here for a bit less than the SA Spec STi with the mods. I wouldnt need an oil cooler, the car already comes std with 320hp, and of course I wouldnt need the Garret.
What scares me about this option, is that from what I read in your excellent writeup, there is no ways the VF37 twin scroll would be able to cope with 400hp. Which pretty much puts a stop to this project, or does it?
I dont want to build something that has 400hp but is undrivable in real life terms, something that comes on boost at 4500-7500rpm wouldnt be good for me, I need something that is drivable from lets say a maximum 3700rpm on, but that also gives good top end.
From your experience, at what RPM does the twin scroll VF37 come on boost? and does boost taper off at higher RPM?
One question that begs an answer, are the twin scrolls equipped Scoobies fitted with a cat in the upipe (same as US Spec??)
I was thinking of going for the APS induction system, as I will be going for the full APS kit, the FMIC, the fuel kit (replacement fuel rails) the exhaust etc.
But in your article I have noticed that you do not like the way the APS air intake works, where you referring to this one:
http://www.airpowersystems.com.au/wrx/my01/hfa.htm
Lastly, I know of a few people that have had issues with ECUTek remaps on MY04/MY05 STi's down here, in that it wouldnt allow high boost to be held at high RPM's, no matter what turbo was fitted. Some people blame the OEM bosst control solenoid. i found it interestingthat you went for a 3-port unit on your car, but what do you think about this one?? http://www.rallysportdirect.com/shop...oducts_id/1415
I would appreciate your opinions on which car would make the best base for my project and what do you think about my mods.
Feel free to mail me directly at gerardo@thwane.co.za if that is easier than responding on here
Regards
Gerardo

The Perrrin one retails at $90 and shipping at $20. Even if it arrived with import duty etc, it still looks much better price than buying a new WR1 OEM item.

dave @ kingpin is going to get hold of one and sling it on one of their 'shop' motors when they get some time , but I assume you're in more of a hurry than that ...
