Question Squealing when the A/C button is switched on.

I am getting a squealing noise whenever I switch the A/C on, does anyone know if the A/C compresser is belt driven? The squealing noise is a dead ringer for a loose fan belt.

Randomly when I switch the A/C on it is OK but gives the occasional chirp when the compressor kicks in.

Not sure what model year you have, but I'm pretty sure the AC is belt driven on all Scoobs (it is on my MY98).

I suppose if you've not even lifted the bonnet to look for a belt, there's not much point in suggesting you check the tension, let alone tighten it

Default ac belt

Mine did this, got out looked under the bonnet and the bonnet stay had come out of its retaining clip and was resting against the AC belt/drive.

Worth checking.

Cheers

If its not the belt then it will be the clutch in the AC pump. Mine needs changed, just haven't got round to getting it done.
