Default Is it ok to get an 05 decatted before remap..?

I'm getting my 05 wrx remapped next month (I know, warranty issues etc, I have a very understanding dealer) and I'm decatting the week before (well few day's). Is this ok as someone (a scooby specialist) has told me that it should be remapped at the same time or the cars DOOMED..!

I realise the CEL light will come on and although I'll do 200 or so miles in between, I will be taking it easy.

Am I being given sour grapes as I'm getting map done elsewhere..? (ie enquired about this place doing decat for me, with me supplying parts..!)

Cheers,
Jason

Oh no, not Doomed!! Who said that?

Seems unlikely mate, I know of quite a few people on here that have full decats without a remap and report no problems, AFAIK the remap just exploits the benefits of the decat and gives you an added margin of safety. If you're only doing 200 miles and drive off boost I wouldn't imagine they'd be a problem.

That said, ask one of the experts on here to be sure!

That's what I thought. I think it was a case of sour grapes, if you now what I mean.

Cheers,

I'm in the same position. I'm taking the standard catted downpipe off my MY02 STi and changing to a Prodrive sports cat downpipe. I'm doing this on the 26th, and the car is scheduled to be remapped on the 28th.

My understanding is that it should be fine, just drive off boost, and keep an eye on your boost gauge and knocklink (which you hopefully have ).

I have to get from West Sussex to Swindon, so its going to be a very boring (off-boost) drive. Hopefully the way home should be a lot more fun .

im a mechanic by trade and the only problem i can see is that the newer cars have 2 lambda sensors.1 before and 1 after the cat.basically as u know, the first lambda befor the cat corrects the mixture going in to the cat.and the new sensor after the cat is basicaly seeing if any excess gassses have managed to pass through and further corrects the mixture. now if youve taken the cat out, first one will still be working fine, but the second one, after the cat[which aint there now],will be seeing very high emmissions coming through, and try to correct by leaning off the mixture.
so to cut a long story short.............errrrrr. take it easy. hope that helps, pete.

Thumbs up

Hi Jason, yep, am booked with Bob on the 28th as part of the group buy. Looking forward to it. Just had the 40k service done, and have a walbro fuel pump, the downpipe as mentioned, and knocklink to be fitted on the 26th. Bob will then fit the induction kit on the day.

I'm glad you raised the question of driving the car pre the re-map. I've spoken to quite a few people to get reassurance. In fact I pm'd Bob last year when I first considered the remap, and now feel that all should be ok as long as I drive it as already mentioned.

I'll let you know how I get on. Enjoy!!

Mark
