ScoobySport - Replacing Centre Section
Hi All,
I have a MY51 Bug eye with a Scoobysport back box but i am looking for a bit more noise.
Would replacing the centre cat produce much more with a Scoobysport centre section?
Guess this question goes to you guys with it already on!

The first thing that affects the volume of the exhaust system is the back box. If you were to put any after market back box onto an OE system, it would sound louder. If you then start taking the cats out, the tone and volume change even further. It is this quest to find the best combination of down pipes, up pipes, centre sections and back boxes and all of the hundreds of combinations that make this question quite difficult to answer.
Some folk bang on big bore 3 inch straight through systems and a huge hollow 5 inch back box. Massively loud and impressive, but not really that practical if you use the car to take the kids to school OR spend all day on motorways.
Others leave the system standard. Even in OE guise, the car sounds "meaty" but we all know it is being choked
Another thing you could do maybe is try before you buy. Borrow one or ask if you can nip round the block with it fitted to YOUR car to see if it does what you want it to do.

Thanks for the response GM
It is true in trying to get the best sound... would love more of a "rumble" as the back box on it's on is quite tame. Was just curious as into replacing the centre section which has a baffle and cat in would up the volume considerably or just a little - or maybe not even anything at all!
Will have to pop up to a meet one day and have a listen... I'll be the guy with the soot on me ear lugs
